Type Locality and Naming

It was named by the Guangxi Petroleum Searching and Prospecting Party in 1974. The naming section is located in the Dongli area in the southern part of Yongning County, Guangxi; with its reference section being situated in a zone from Fulongao, Dongxing County to Nadang, Baise Township, Shangsi County, Guangxi.

Synonym: (岽力组)


Lithology and Thickness

Lower part represents violet-grey and grey-green medium-, and thin-bedded fine-grained sandstones, siltstones and mudstones. Upper part represents grey-green thin-bedded to massive argillaceous conglomerate and feldspar-quartz sandstone, intercalated with coal seams. Its total thickness is 213-866 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The formation and its underlying Nadang Fm together constitute continuous deposits.

Upper contact

No top has been found. Regionally, the schematic strat column indicates the next younger unit as Yuetan Fm

Regional extent

It is distributed mainly in the areas of the Natang-Bangu, the Fenghuan Mts, Xintang within the Shiwandashan Basin, as well as in the areas of Dongxing, Yuping and Maluwei within the Qinzhou Basin. Its thickness varies in a range from 160 m to 1100 m.

Fossils

The formation yields plant fossils Neocalamites sp. and Cupressi-nocladus sp.


Age 

Schematic strat column in previous "red Chinese Lexicon" had implied that the Dongli Fm spanned the Late Jurassic.
